Meet Dawn
Dawn Bower’s path to becoming a breastfeeding advocate began in 1983 with the birth of the first of her six children. Nursing all of them through a range of challenges and for varying lengths of time gave her insight into real-life breastfeeding, beyond instructions from manuals alone. Through her own experiences, Dawn saw not only the benefits of breastfeeding, but also the risks when breastfeeding support is limited, which led her to begin sharing guidance and encouragement with other pregnant and breastfeeding parents.
Dawn set her sights on becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 1998. She first became an Accredited La Leche League Leader in 2002, then attended UCLA Extension, earning her Lactation Educator Certificate in 2006. While working with the local WIC Program at Antelope Valley Hospital, Dawn passed the IBCLC exam in 2009. In 2012, she opened her own lactation consultant office in Lancaster, California, where she continues to support families who reach out for care. In 2014, Dawn joined Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, working in the Lactation Department.
Dawn maintains her ties to La Leche League and Breastfeed LA and currently serves as the Board Chair of the Antelope Valley Breastfeeding Coalition. She has been published in New Beginnings. In her spare time, Dawn enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, riding along on the back of her husband’s motorcycle, and crafting.

Collaborative Care
Because infant feeding challenges often connect to the body as a whole, Dawn partners with trusted providers who support parents and babies in complementary ways.
